Composer’s note

1 The work consists of seven parts.
Each is based on a specific range.
Each range functions in a distinct space of activity, according to its position in relation to the total amplitude.

2 One very interesting idea that is occurring , in our multidimensional Universe, is about time. Time can be like a pulse, that everytime pulsating in all dimensions, creating the Spherical time. In the spherical time if we take one diameter inside this pulse, we have the linear motion. The liner time, that we live in, and our sences and brain materilised.

3 And Thaumas took Electra for his wife, the daughter of Oceanus
with the deep current. And she gave birth to Iris
and the Harpies with the fair count, Ocypeti and Aello,
that run like the breaths of the winds and the birds
thanks to their swift wings. Because high above the earth they rush.
Hesiod Theogony 265-270

I’m dead inside. Aellus’s claws tear at my flesh as she drags me in a frantic dance towards the Furies. And in the whirlwind of horror it transforms and changes, once to Virgil, once to Antaeus and once to you…

4 The work was composed in 2024 in memoriam of the Turkish invasion of 1974. It depicts the desecration of historical and religious monuments and the overall destruction of Cyprus’s cultural heritage during the 50 years of Turkish occupation.

5 X-île: Exile or an island, any island, X island.
In the work X-île for instrumental ensemble (2016), the pace reveals different qualities of movement and sound colour. The musical phrases and gestures seem to have an end of their own – like an island can be self-contained, it “end” at its own seashore, yet the sea defines a new beginning, and therefore the island becomes a part of a wider geography. Similarly exile can be a definite situation, enforced, but it can also be a choice of the “exiled” aiming for a new start, precisely out of borders or boundaries.
So, although each musical phrase sound elliptical, at the same time it is independent and self-contained, and it functions as a leap to a new phrase or phase, as a push to a new beginning, contributing to one, common movement.
The world première of Χ-Île took place at the 29th Music Biennale Zagreb in 2017.
